Becoming Green Globe™ Certified requires an annual audit of Cora Cora Maldives’ sustainability practices. This includes making sure local produce is used when available, using an energy-efficient lighting system, trying to reduce the amount of waste we have, and recycling what we can. Sustainable operations not only come from something we have written in a plan but also from training our staff by providing them with more information and the right tools dedicated to providing exceptional and sustainable guest experiences.

Limiting Single-Use Plastics

We take pride in being advocates for combating plastic pollution and setting a positive example for our guests, starting with our drinking water. Through desalinization, we create all our drinking water, carefully poured into our glass water bottles, “Pure,” offering both Still and Sparkling options.

By operating our water bottling plant, we not only ensure a fresh water supply but also eliminate the use of over 100,000 plastic bottles annually. Furthermore, we have replaced plastic straws with sustainable alternatives and provide organic bath essentials like shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, and lotion in refillable bespoke canisters.

Turtle Trails

We join hands with the Olive Ridley Project and Atoll Marine Center in a mission to support the protection of vulnerable sea turtles and their habitats through rescue, rehabilitation, education, and research.

Our team rescued several sea turtles, like Cora, a male Olive Ridley sea turtle rescued in dire conditions, floating helplessly with severe injuries from ghost nets. This incident underscores the critical threats these majestic creatures face daily.

Education plays a crucial role in our conservation strategy. By visiting local schools and engaging with the community & guests, we aim to instill a sense of stewardship in the next generation, ensuring that the protection of sea turtles and their environment continues into the future.

As developers, we identify underperforming or mispositioned assets, as well as locations ripe for greenfield projects. Our approach is twofold: first, we strategically map out the brand and hotel positioning, including target demographics, development concepts, and design direction, all backed by a robust feasibility study. Second, we collaborate with designers and consultants to transform this vision into a detailed master plan. This marks the concept phase. In parallel, during this process, we also work closely with investors to raise both equity and debt. During the development phase, we lead the contractor selection process, whether by managing the project internally or partnering with an external project management firm. Our role is to oversee the entire process, ensuring seamless coordination among the construction team, designers, consultants, investors, and, when applicable, external operators. Previously, Shintaro served as Associate Director at InSitu Asia, a hospitality-focused development and operations firm, where he led hotel development, investment, and asset management initiatives in Southeast Asia and Japan.

He began his career as an analyst with an asset manager collaborating with Pegasus Capital, the former owner of Six Senses. In this role, he gained valuable experience in investment underwriting and structuring for real estate projects in Tuscany, New York, Fiji, and the United States.

Originally from Tokyo, Shintaro has lived in major cities including New York and Singapore. He graduated from New York University Abu Dhabi with a full merit scholarship and also attended New York University Stern School of Business, specializing in real estate.
